Chris Fowler worked this one up over several seasons out of the mini olive line, selecting for size, and the result holds its olive green all the way through ripeness. Cut one open and the flesh inside is thick and yellow around the black seed that marks every pubescens.Pods run three to four inches, apple to blunt bell in form, on a plant that goes past four feet. 30,000 to 100,000 SHU.Be honest with yourself about the timeline: this is an extremely late variety, 120 days and beyond, and rocotos want cooler nights than most of the country gives them in summer. What you are getting: a seedling, minimum 8 weeks old and at least 6 inches tall. It is not a finished plant. It will need transplanting into a container, so choose the container accordingly: these will grow in anything from a half gallon up, but the pot determines the yield in many cases, and some varieties do better than others in a small one.If it is going outside: harden it off first. Give it a few hours a day somewhere sheltered and out of direct sun, and build that up over a week or so before it lives outdoors full time. A seedling put straight out is a seedling you can lose.Feeding: do not fertilise for the first two weeks. After that, use a balanced fertiliser.More on this variety, and on growing peppers generally, at wikipepper.org.
