McMahon's Texas Bird Pepper Plant
Price: $15.00 USD
At 50,000 to 100,000 SHU the heat arrives fast and does not negotiate, which is normal for wild-type chiltepins. The pods are small and round, ripening red on a Capsicum annuum var. glabriusculum plant, the bird pepper of the southwestern US and northern Mexico, where birds spread the seed on their own. It is associated with the McMahon family and South Texas growing tradition. It dries well and grinds down into a potent powder.
