Species: C. flexuosum Heat: 0-1,000 SHU (Mild) Light: Full sun (6–8+ hrs) Growing temperature: 70-85°F (21-29°C) SKU: PP-FLEXUOSUMMONTLOBAREDFLOW-W A collected form of the wild Brazilian species Capsicum flexuosum, carrying the name of where it was found. Monteiro Lobato is a small town in the hills of São Paulo state, and wild Capsicum accessions are named for their collection locality because that is often the only thing that distinguishes one from another. This one is the red-flowered form. C. flexuosum is normally recorded with violet flowers, so the flower colour is the whole reason this collection was kept separate.A wild species, not a cultivar. Nobody bred it and nobody has selected it for anything. What you are getting: a seedling, minimum 8 weeks old and at least 6 inches tall. It is not a finished plant. It will need transplanting into a container, so choose the container accordingly: these will grow in anything from a half gallon up, but the pot determines the yield in many cases, and some varieties do better than others in a small one.If it is going outside: harden it off first. Give it a few hours a day somewhere sheltered and out of direct sun, and build that up over a week or so before it lives outdoors full time. A seedling put straight out is a seedling you can lose.Feeding: do not fertilise for the first two weeks. After that, use a balanced fertiliser.More on this variety, and on growing peppers generally, at wikipepper.org.
